Who Are We

​​​The Pokanoket Tribe has played a prominent role in the Indigenous and colonial history of these lands.  The Pokanoket proudly declare that they are here and they are now.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to bring together all descendants of the Pokanoket Tribe.

We are committed to preserving our beliefs, culture, and lands, ensuring that everyone on Mother Earth can appreciate and learn from our rich heritage.

We work alongside federal, state, and local governments to promote the well-being of our community safeguard our people and land from exploitation.

Location

Our ancestral homelands are known as Sowams. Sowams consist of what today is known as the towns of Barrington, Bristol, and Warren, RI, the city of East Providence and part of Providence, RI; the towns of Seekonk, Swansea, Somerset, and Rehoboth MA.
